The Vodafone Foundation’s  Technology Programme collaborates with non-profit organisations in developing innovative technological solutions for their target groups and putting them into practice.

 

Simultaneous transliteration of spoken word (600,000 CZK, Prague)

·        The project makes use of communications technology to help people with hearing disabilities overcome communication and information barriers

·        Implemented by the Czech Union of the Deaf.

Navigation Centre for the blind and seriously visually handicapped (1,270,000 CZK, Prague)

·        The aim of the project is to provide blind people with spatial orientation in both familiar and unfamiliar environments via the help of a human ‘operator’ based in a “navigation centre”. This means of communication will be gradually developed into a sophisticated automated system.

·        Carried out by the Unified Organisation for the Blind and Visually Impaired

Student stipend in the Research and Development Centre(1 000 000 CZK, Prague)

·        The project contributes to the personal development of talented students in the Czech Republic by allowing them to full focus on their studies and research and development activities within the framework of the RDC, without having to worry about living costs. These targeted stipends also facilitate the creation of new solutions for the handicapped community in the Czech Republic.

·        Under the Auspices of the Czech Technical University

 Development of orientation aids “Out from the Darkness” (430,000 CZK, Prague)

·        The development of universal orientation aids with the working title “Out from the Darkness”  from prototype stage through to its serial production.  The aid simplifies orientation for blind people when on the move, increasing their independence and safety and reducing their reliance on others around them.

·        Carried out by the Integration Civic Association

 E-Scribe – The Centre for Automatic Transliteration of Speech (800,000 CZK, Prague)

·        The E-Scribe project aims to break down communication barriers facing the deaf directly follows on from a previously supported project in this field (Simultaneous Transliteration of the Spoken Word)

·        The aim is to create an on-line transliteration centre that is widely available and that will simplify and improve the work of speed typists.

·        Carried out by the CTU and Czech Union of the Deaf

 Development and Application of Modular Mobile System of Care for Senior Citizens (1,650,000 CZK, Prague)

·        The project aims to invent, test and implement an innovative modular system that establishes a new form of health care at home.

·        The system monitors the movements of the senior citizen and can automatically detect any fall suffered by them, as well as locate them if needed using GPS.

·        Implemented by the Centre for Support of Applied Results and Spin-Offs from Firms at the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University.
